Experience a guided safari into Kumana National Park, located about 29 km from Arugam Bay. This journey takes you through off-road tracks and designated park routes, offering a slow-paced wildlife viewing experience from the comfort of your safari vehicle. A short stop inside the park allows you to stretch, enjoy a snack, and take in the natural surroundings before continuing the drive back toward your accommodation.
Kumana National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s most important wildlife and bird sanctuary regions, sharing its ecosystem boundary with Yala National Park, separated by the Kumbukkan River. The park features diverse habitats including lagoons, tanks, marshlands, scrub forest, river streams, and grasslands.
Wildlife sightings may include elephants, deer, sloth bears, and leopards. Birdlife is especially rich, with pelicans, painted storks, spoonbills, ibis, herons, egrets, cormorants, jacanas, stilts, teals, and the rare black-necked stork. The endangered Lesser Adjutant Stork can also be spotted in the sanctuary.
